Individuals who have recently received a transplant or been diagnosed with cancer. Now, CDC advisory panel also comes with the same recommendations of additional doses to moderately or severely immunocompromised people. Do you know WHY? It’s because the Delta variant continues to drive up Covid-19 infection in the United States. Despite the 50% of the American population getting fully vaccinated, the Covid-19 cases continue to grow & in the past couple of days, it has remained over 100K.
Who’s Considered as Immunocompromised Individual?
Right after this suggestion by CDC & FDA, many of you would be having doubts in your mind. If this recommendation comes in full force then any Immunocompromised person aged over 12, 18 and who has taken two shots of the Pfizer vaccine and Moderna Vaccine respectively will get an additional dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. P.S. Johnson & Johnson vaccine was not included in the update because of insufficient data on it. Additionally, it’s not an mRNA-based vaccine. So, the chance of the vaccine getting included in the update is highly unlikely.
Dr. Anthony Fauci on Additional Vaccine Shot
After CDC & FDA recommending the same thing, this is what the nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci had to say on the Covid-19 booster shots: People will likely need COVID-19 vaccine booster shots “for the durability of protection.” Even though early data came in support of a booster shot to immunocompromised America, Dr. Anthony Fauci recommends a detailed evaluation of data available in your hands. He added, “Right at this moment – apart from the immunocompromised… we do not believe that others, elderly or nonelderly, who are not immunocompromised need (an additional vaccine dose) right at this moment.”
What does it mean to be immunocompromised?
As per the head of the CDC, there are less than 3% of American adults who are immunocompromised. So, what does this mean? If you’re battling Cancer or recently received a transplant, it’s highly likely for you to get infected with the delta variant of the Coronavirus. And once that happens, you can become the carrier to transmit the virus to other immunocompromised adults. So, with a booster shot, you can increase protection against the delta variant of the virus.
