Memphis gained popularity when he began serving as a hype man for the legendary rapper Jay-Z. Following his success in the music industry, Bleek decided to start his own record label called Get Low Records in 1998. Bleek followed this up with another record label called Warehouse Music Group which he launched in the year 2016.  Over the years Memphis has dropped 4 albums and he earned success, two of which became massive blows receiving Gold status. Early Life:

Memphis Bleek was born Malik Deshawn Cox in New York City, on the 23rd of June 1978. The rapper was raised in the same neighborhood that artist Jay-Z is from known as Marcy Projects. Malik is quite private about his early life and hasn’t disclosed any information about his parents or family life. Growing up he spent his childhood and teenage years with his cousin Sean Price who is also a well-known rapper. 

Music Career:

Memphis developed an interest in music and eventually got a chance to appear as a protege to Jay-Z. He quickly impressed Jay-Z with his impressive rap skills and became one of the first rappers to sign a deal with Jay-Z’s record label called Roc-A-Fella Records.  Following this, he began to work as a featuring artist on Jay-Z‘s music including his albums like The Dynasty: Roc La Familia, Reasonable Doubt, and The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse.  After getting a lot of experience from there Memphis was ready to record his debut album titled Coming of Age which he dropped back in 1999. It was his first project and the rapper found a lot of success with the release of that album became which sold over 120 thousand units within its first week as well as peaking at number 7 spot on the charts.  Following the success, it was enough motivation for him to release three more albums, including his second album, The Understanding. The album was released in 2000 and peaked at number spot on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart as well as earned Gold Certification. Moreover, the album features hit singles like In My Life, They’ll Never Play Me, I Get High, and We Get Low.  Then in 2003, Bleek came up with the release of his third studio album M.A.D.E which received Gold Status. Around that same time, his older brother got a motorcycle accident and was suffering from severe injuries. As a result, Memphis decided to take a 3 years hiatus from his music career in order to take care of his brother. Following that, Memphis teamed up with singer Rihanna and rapper Jay-Z to release 5ths 43. Memphis came into popularity when he released his breakthrough single Is That Yo Chick. He collaborated with Missy Elliott and Jay-Z to record that track and it went viral peaking at number 7th on the charts. From that point forward he began collaborating with other popular artists like Ja Rule, DMX, Beanie Sigel, Young Gunz, T.I., Trick Daddy, and many others. 

It was the year 2005 when Memphis Bleek stated that he is working on his new project the album entitled The Process. But due to some unknown reasons, the album was never dropped. At that time he decided to split Jay-Z’s label Roc-A-Fella Records and quickly signed a new music deal with Mass Appeal Entertainment.  It was later revealed that Memphis wanted to start his own record label and wanted to expand his own business that’s why he left Roc-A-Fella Records. In 2012 Bleek worked with The Liberty Music Group and dropped KG Vol. 2.  Later he gained teamed up with The Liberty Music Group to release The Movement which had more than 125k Downloads. The Movement 2 was a mixtape that Bleek released in March of 2014. 

Personal Life:

Memphis Bleek started dating a girl named Ashley Coombs. The couple got married in December of 2014 after being in a relationship for several years. Their evening marriage ceremony was attended by Jay-Z and was held at The Merion in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. In July of 2018, Memphis became the father of a daughter.

Memphis Bleek has seen some financial troubles in his successful music career. The rapper filed for Chapter thirteen bankruptcy in the year 2016 in which he showed $274,190 as his total assets.  He also showed these assets which include his New Jersey house, marriage rings, as well as clothing, and a car he owns Chevy Impala. It was 384,804 dollars liabilities which he pegged. In addition, Memphis announced that he doesn’t have any single zero dollars according to his bank statement.  In 2016 the bankruptcy filing also shows that he was making around $6 thousand in a month.
